Welcome to
DeLand and West Volusia County, Florida. This is a special part of a
special state--close to everything, yet a world apart. DeLand, Deltona,
DeLeon Springs, Orange City, DeBary, Lake Helen and Cassadaga each offer a unique character and
warm hospitality. So spectacular is the area's scenic beauty, so
charming is its small town atmosphere, it is truly Florida's Natural
Wonder.
Here you'll find no lines, no hassles or the constant hustle and bustle
so familiar at Florida's famed theme parks. The taste of country charm
that first attracted settlers to the area more than 100 years ago still
exists, only now with a touch of sophistication.
Our neighborhoods are shaded by majestic oaks. Championship golf and
tennis facilities offer great recreation. Theaters, museums and
galleries, antique shops and boutiques make shopping a delight. And
there's more--colorful restaurants and open air cafes, festivals, art
and craft shows, stately southern homes, fascinating historical sites,
campgrounds, fish camps and comfortable hotels, motels and bed and
breakfast inns in all price ranges.
The lakes, rivers and springs are much like they have been for hundreds
of years, and we have added local, state and national parks so you can
be closer to Mother Nature.
Just
Up the Road
Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach are only a half hour to the east via
major highways. Play on the beaches, enjoy a visit to Daytona
International Speedway and its new motor sports attraction, DAYTONA USA,
see the Ponce DeLeon Inlet Lighthouse, and don't miss the many other sights to
see.
Just
Down the Road
Drive south from DeLand-West Volusia for about 30 miles to Orlando and
its world-renown attractions. Do a little shopping, visit Disney World
and the many other attractions, then return here to relax and experience
the quieter side of Florida. It's what a true vacation is all about.
Florida's
Natural Wonder
Visit Blue Spring, Hontoon Island, DeLeon Springs State Parks, and the
new Gemini Springs County Park for camping, picnicking, swimming, scuba
diving, canoeing and educational programs. The Florida Manatee winter at
Blue Spring in Orange City, and the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife
Refuge at DeLeon Springs is another ideal spot for observing and
photographing Florida's wildlife.
Celebrate
Nature
The best of Florida's water sports are enjoyed year-round here in
DeLand-West Volusia. The legendary St. Johns River is a veritable
wildlife sanctuary and a popular place for a river cruise, tubing and
fishing. Sit back for a narrated river tour, or rent a houseboat or
pontoon boat for your own adventure on the river. Our eagle population
is second in the nation with four active nests and eighty roamers.
The
Old Fishin' Hole
If you like fightin' bass, you're in the right place. Take on a feisty
largemouth bass or fill your stringer with crappie and other pan fish
from the St. Johns River, on your own or with the help of an experienced
guide. Don't have equipment? No problem! You can rent everything you
need right here.
The
Wild Blue Yonder
Don't be surprised if you look up to see the skies filled with a rainbow
of colorful canopies of skydivers as they drift
lazily over the DeLand-West Volusia area. Skydivers come here
from around the world all year round to train, compete and jump for fun
at Skydive DeLand.
Southern
Charm
While the communities of DeLand-West Volusia are charming, it's the
people who make the area what it is. Warm hospitality is our hallmark.
We're pleased to welcome our visitors, so relax and enjoy. And be sure
to visit the lush campus of Stetson University. Chartered in 1883,
Stetson is Florida's oldest private institution of higher education and
ranks academically among the best in America.
