GSS-Florida Lutheran's 50th Anniversary
A Ribbon cutting was held at Florida
Lutheran Retirement Center, located at 450 N. Mcdonald
Ave., in Deland.
On November 13th Florida Lutheran began its year
long 50th Anniversary celebration, with a Communion
Service, followed by an outdoor lavish luncheon
ceremony with Deland Mayor Apgar presenting a Proclamation
to Jenny George, Adm. of Florida Lutheran, and a
performance by "Mr. Deland", Bill Dreggor's,
followed by a historical review of the last 50th
years at Florida Lutheran by site founder and construction
overseer, Rev. Gerald Daniels.
Pastor Daniels and his wife, Marjorie have been
mentor's since 1954 and residents of Florida Lutheran
for the last 8 years. Dave Horazdovsky, Pres. &
CEO of the Evangelical Lutheran good Samaritan Society,
gave the keynote address. 335 people were treated
to a delicious luncheon in an elegantly decorated
environment of white table clothes and crystal centerpieces
with beautiful garnet red roses.
On December 5th, Florida Lutheran hosted the "Special
After Hours Celebration", to thank the local
business community for its 50 years of success.
Those businesses represented were treated to wine
and a multitude of delicious hors d'oevres and desserts.
To honor its 50th anniversary, Florida Lutheran
will be building a beautiful Prayer Chapel and Meditation
Garden in the heart of the campus. The chapel will
be built with donated funds from the community and
Florida Lutheran will be hosting several fund raising
events throughout the coming year, starting with
a "Not Quite a Black Tie Affair" in February.
