The Education Committee celebrated
their 1st Annual Crystal Apple Awards Ceremony on May 10th, 2007.
The event honored educators in the DeLand Area Chamber service area
who have shown exceptional dedication and excellence in the development
of students. Teachers were nominated on the following: 1. Ability
to promote students’ involvement in community and school improvement
2. Involvement in educational programs beyond normal schools hours
3. Effectiveness in motivating students and 4. Ability to communicate
with educators, parents, and the community.
All nominees were awarded the “Golden
Ruler Award” and four (4) educators were honored with the
“Crystal Apple Award.” Superintendent Dr. Margaret Smith,
County Council Member Andy Kelly , DeLand City Commissioner, Scott
Price and Chamber President, Neil Pistana were on hand to congratulate
the winners and nominees.
The Chamber would like to extend its
appreciation to all the sponsors who made this event possible, to
the businesses who contributed to the gift baskets presented to
the Crystal Apple Winners and to Professor Messer and friends for
musical entertainment. Special thanks to the Crystal Apple Task
Force for a job well done in planning and coordinating the 1st Annual
Crystal Apple Event and to members of the Events Committee for their
assistance.
