    PRESS RELEASE
DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce & Orange City Alliance is honored to host our Florida Commissioner of Agriculture & Consumer Services, Nikki Fried, here in DeLand! Commissioner Fried will speak on the impact and influence that agri-business has on the region and our state at our upcoming luncheon on September 12th. We are thrilled to provide this informative opportunity to our members as well as the community at large.
Among the many Divisions & Offices regulated and overseen by the Florida Department of Agriculture are the Forest Service which manages over 1 million acres of state forest resources, the Division of Plant Industry which works to detect, intercept and control plant and honey bee pests that threaten Florida’s native and commercially grown plants and agricultural resources, and the Division of Licensing that administers Florida’s concealed weapon licensing program. Also through the “Fresh From Florida” brand, the Department works to promote the sale of the high quality products and commodities produced and grown in Florida.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Division of Consumer Services is the state’s clearinghouse for consumer complaints, information and protection. They regulate various businesses, such as motor vehicle repair shops, charitable organizations, pawnbrokers, health studios, sellers of travel, intrastate movers, professional surveyors and mappers, sweepstakes/game promotions and telemarketers. In addition, they protect consumers and businesses from unfair and unsafe business practices across a wide range of market sectors, including gasoline, brake fluid, antifreeze, liquefied petroleum gas, amusement rides, and weighing and measuring devices.
There will be a Q&A Session with Commissioner Fried and all registered luncheon attendees will receive an email invitation to submit questions. Guests must be registered by Tuesday, September 3rd to be included in the question submission process. As a non-partisan chamber, we do not take a stance on any political issues, instead we are committed to providing information from our local and state elected officials as a means to educate and inform. We recognize the agricultural industry as an integral part of our West Volusia community, the central Florida region and the entire State of Florida.
Title Sponsor for the event, Cobb Cole Law Firm, has been instrumental in bringing high-profile speakers to our community. “Hosting Commissioner Fried as our keynote speaker for the ‘Cobb Cole’ West Volusia Means Business Luncheon – Agriculture in the Region is just another way the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce & Orange City Alliance provides relevant, informative opportunities to our businesses and citizens,” said Robert Doan, attorney at Cobb Cole DeLand and DeLand Chamber Board Member.

TICKETS to the luncheon event may be purchased online at www.delandchamber.org, by emailing opportunities@delandchamber.org or by calling the Chamber office at (386) 734-4331.
